Low Voltage Essentials
This one-day class provides the low voltage foundation necessary for all HVAC technicians.
Offered as a one-day intensive training, our Low Voltage Essentials starts with a little theory, but quickly focuses in on real world challenges that technicians are faced with every day. Topics include Ohm’s law, electrical symbols, schematics and wiring diagrams, then move to relays, heat pump wiring, 3 and 4 wire zone valves, thermostats and their different letter designations, and much more. The class concludes with a hands-on segment where each student receives a multimeter to take home and is taught how to use it on live components in the classroom. Included also are handouts of much of what is discussed in class for future reference in the field.
As a company’s success relies on the productivity and competence of their technicians, nowhere are these issues in more jeopardy than with low voltage aptitude. In fact, most technicians today are not comfortable enough to replace a relay that doesn’t look exactly like the one that has gone bad, or even how to decisively diagnose it. This course will help the average tech understand what they are looking at, how to evaluate it, and how to find an acceptable replacement.
A technician’s most important tools are, well, his tools! And of those, the multimeter jumps to the top of the list. Why is it then, that most technicians never use theirs, made obvious by the fact that most of their batteries are dead without them knowing? They are intimidated by them, because they don’t understand all the functions, and don’t really understand how to use them. Not sure about that? Do a quick survey and ask them who would like training on how to use their multimeters, and more than 50% will jump at the opportunity.
